| Purity is a unique contemporary, carved pine wall plaque, 24"X 48" with copper and abalone inlays based on Coastal Salish traditional artistic concepts. This piece is purely the artist's conception. It represents his connection to the female side. The female within the female is gently holding on to the birthing canal and the creation process. |
At the top is a space that would be the head, but because at birth we have no preconceived values and wear no masks, this space is blank.
The Eagle feather down the center is the path of life and truth. Although there are many paths away from the central path one must always return to the central (true) path.
The copper inlay represents the wealth of what is presented and the abalone inlays on the side are the seven stages of life. The faces depicted on the toes are the basic emotions.
The copper insignia on the bottom is the personal family crest of the owner. This piece is in the Miru Collection in New Zealand.
This plaque and the interpretation are the creation of the artist, Herb Rice.
