Speaker's Mask with Pounded Copper by Herb Rice

The Speaker's Mask with Hammered Copper is 16" X 9" carved in red cedar with hammered copper.

The Speaker's Mask is topped with two eagles, facing each other. This represents the duality of male/female understanding. The copper represents wealth. In this piece the wealth is in the understanding of tradition and balance.

The speaker has the voice and training to present the story to the fullest for those who he is representing.

In Herb's Coast Salish culture, The Speaker speaks for the people.

This mask and the interpretation are the creation of the artist, Herb Rice.
