Tsonoqua, Flirtatious Wild Woman of the Woods Mask
by Herb Rice

Tsonoqua, Flirtatious Wild Woman of the Woods Mask is 14" X 8" carved in red cedar.

In Herb's Coast Salish culture, Tsonoqua, is well known. With her siren-like voice she lures children to her, captures them and puts them in her basket on her back. She takes them to her home to cook them up and eat them. Smart children can escape by taking advantage of her need to sleep regularly.

So, if you are a child at heart, or an actual child, BEWARE!

This mask and the interpretation are the creation of the artist, Herb Rice. Photo by Ernie Einarsson.
