Seawolf Drum by Herb Rice

This Seawolf Drum is 18" in diameter. It is constructed on a woodframe with a raw hide stretched over it.

In Herb's Coast Salish culture, the drum is used in traditional ceremony. The drum represents the heartbeat of our mother, The Earth.

The painting depicts a seawolf.

The Seawolf represents a mythological character related to the orca. There are many Coast Salish tales about epic struggles between the Seawolf and the Orca.

The drum and the interpretation are the creation of the artist, Herb Rice.
