What type of wood do you use?

Response:

In order of preference, I use yellow cedar, red cedar and Vacouver Island white pine.   I have also been known to use bass wood, alder wood and yew wood.

Do you make your own knives?

Response:

Yes I make my own blades. I also make sets of knives for other carvers. Check out my knives here

What kind of paint do you use?     Cecilia Anderson

Response:

For smaller indoor pieces I use acrylic waterbased paints. For outdoor pieces it varies. I use either oil based paints or good quality outdoor acrylic paints.

Do you use electricity in your carving?     Sandra Baines

Response:

When the Europeans first arrived on this Island they did not use electricity. And neither did my people. Today, we all use electricity. I use electric lights, electric heat, and for large pieces electric tools to shape them done to a useable size. The actual carving and design I do with hand tools.

What do the colours mean?

Response:

Traditionally black frames the internal designs, and red is the colour for the internal designs.
